A total of 10 High Court and Appeals Court Judges have been approved by the Sierra Leone Parliament following their appointment by the President, Julius Maada Bio several weeks ago acting on the advice from the Judicial a d Legal Service Commission.
The 10 Judges got unanimous approval after vetting by members of Parliament on May 23, 2025, on Tower Hill in Freetown.
The 10 Judges include seven to the High Court and three to the Appeals Court.
Among the seven High Court Judges are five Magistrates including Marke Ngegba, Sahr Kekura, Santigie Bangura, Josephine Hinga, and Isata Sellu-Tucker. The other two newly appointed Judges are Khalla Kamara and Andrew Johnson.
Meanwhile, Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara, Alfred Ganda, and Simeon Allieu were successfully vetted as Appeals Court Judges. The three Judges served as High Court Judges for at least 15 years before this appointment.
During their presentation to Members at Tower Hill, the Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mathew Nyuma urged the judges to work in the interest of justice.
Several Members of Parliament extended their congratulations to the newly promoted judges. Among them, Abdul Karim Kamara stressed that the judges possess the necessary academic qualifications to merit their promotions.
