A team from the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), led by Mr. Senesie Fullah, Senior Environmental Specialist at the EDSA Freetown office, held a strategic meeting with senior officials of the Pujehun District Council to discuss plans for connecting the district headquarters to the national electricity grid.
The meeting, held at the Chief Administrator’s office in Pujehun, focused on the “Enhancing Sierra Leone Energy Access Project”—a joint initiative supported by the World Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone.
According to Mr. Fullah, the project aims to provide a sustainable and reliable electricity supply to Pujehun by linking the town to the national grid via the CLSG (Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea) Transco power line through the Potoru route.
“This project will deliver 32kV of electricity from Potoru to Pujehun town,” Mr. Fullah stated. “We are optimistic that it will be completed before the end of this year.”
He acknowledged previous government interventions to electrify the district through the District Electrification Project but emphasized that integration into the national grid would provide a more dependable and long-term energy solution.
Mr. Fullah also noted that the initiative is part of a broader nationwide effort to expand electricity access. Another key component of the project involves transmitting power from the CLSG 225kV substation in Fadugu to Kabala.
Welcoming the delegation, Chief Administrator Joseph G.T. Gando expressed enthusiasm about the development and assured EDSA of the council’s full support.
“This is a timely and much-needed project,” Mr. Gando said. “We are ready to collaborate and provide the necessary assistance to ensure its success.”
Both parties exchanged contact details to enable smooth coordination as the project progresses.
The Enhancing Sierra Leone Energy Access Project marks a significant step in bridging the energy gap across districts and supporting inclusive national development.
