Around 6:00 PM this evening, a sudden heavy windstorm followed by a brief but intense rainfall struck parts of Freetown, causing considerable damage within the premises of the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), University of Sierra Leone.

Eyewitnesses report that the strong winds swept through the area, toppling roofs onto several vehicles parked within the IPAM compound. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and students and staff who were on campus at the time are all confirmed to be safe.

The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency had earlier issued a general weather alert for unstable conditions, but many were caught off guard by the sudden intensity of the wind.

We thank God there was no injury or loss of life,” said a student on the scene. “But the damage to property, especially the cars, is concerning.”

Authorities from the university are currently assessing the extent of the damage, and cleaning
