The All People’s Congress APC has vowed to take necessary political actions if the government decides to divide districts and cities as proposed.
This declaration was made by the Opposition Whip of Parliament, Abdul Karim Kamara, in an interview on Radio Democracy, while speaking on his party’s position on the proposed divisions of cities and districts by the Government. “As a party, if they go ahead with the division, we will take the necessary political actions,” Kamara said.
However, he did not disclose the specific action his party, the APC will take but said the public will know if the need arises.
Speaking on the government’s decision, Kamara described such action as recklessness if it does not meet the needs of the people.
He further stated that the Minister of Finance, Sheku Bangura is in better position to advise the government of such decision with the current economic state of the country, citing examples to the struggles different Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) faced in budget allocation. He said it is unnecessary to create new cities with the ongoing struggle of current ones.
Kamara’s reaction was spurred when the Sierra Leone Government announced earlier this week that there are plans to add two more districts as well as divide the capital, Freetown. The Government also announced that Lungi, a town in northwest Sierra Leone which holds the only international airport in the country, will be transformed into a city under the new plan.
Proponent of this decision say it is done to ensure development reaches other parts of the country faster.
Opponents, however, argue that the decision is a political tool employed the SLPP-led administration to create more seats in Parliament as well as the local government.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Local Government, Tamba Lamina said that the decision will be finalised by a presidential declaration in the coming weeks but failed to give further details of the plan.
Karim or whatever you call yourself, you are the most stupid person I ever see. Where was you 2015?
Thank you very much sir. This will be appreciated.
However, please start with Karene and Falaba districts that where created during APC tenure. Also, don’t forget about, the regions that has grown to five.
Sometimes I agree with Sylvia Blyden on the notion that most of her party executives are educated fools who needs some schooling on the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone. The APC parliamentarians and executive are just there to be seen as doing something, deceiving their gullible supporters. That particular presidential proclamation can only be turn down by 2/3 majority of parliamentarians in parliament. I totally agree with Aunty Sylvia, them guys don’t know their left from their right. APC na disgrace to the country. Please engage yourself in constructive criticism.
Abdul Karim kamara is a testament of an educated fool, where was he when the falaba and karene districts were created by their so called apc led government?
He should be schooled on the 1991 constitution.
APC is nothing but a reckless and useless opposition in our beloved country sierra leone who fit for no purpose but a symbol of social unrest who wants to turn our country into a state of anarchy . Abdul Karim, how dear you say the intention of creating new districts and cities is on call for, where the people are overwhelmely welcoming the creation. How do you compare what ignited earnest koroma to creat falaba and Kerena districts in the northern region and additional districts in the western area. Was it because it’s your so called strongholds. If Apc wants let then set sierra leone at blase . But it is quite in possible. Those who do it will face the full force of the government
Mr. Abdul Karim Kamara where were you when the previous APC government created Falaba and Karene districts and even added another region: North-West? Why didn’t you take the necessary political actions back then to reverse the decision? Or is it because it was your party that was in power that is why you had no problem with the decision? What goes around always comes around. We the Sierra Leoneans welcome the idea of creating new cities and districts and there is nothing any of you will do about it so just keep mute and be part of the process.
