The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), a rights-based organization, has issued a press release expressing deep concerns regarding the declining public trust in the judiciary of Sierra Leone.

The statement, released late Friday, 23rd May, 2025, spotlighted a troubling trend that the organization describes as a “critical erosion” of confidence in the country’s justice system.

In its press release, CHRDI pointed to several key issues contributing to the decline in trust. Among those were perceived bias and corruption within the judiciary, a lack of transparency and accountability, an inefficient and delay-prone justice system, and the overall poor condition of the judiciary.

The organization stressed that those factors undermine the integrity of the justice system and call into question the fairness of judicial proceedings.

CHRDI argued that the current state of the judiciary not only affects the delivery of justice but also erodes public confidence in legal institutions.

In light of those concerns, CHRDI has urgently called for immediate reforms to the justice system, believing that such reforms are essential to strengthen public confidence and ensure the independence of the judiciary.
