President of Sierra Leone Lawyer’s Society, Augistine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah in a social media post on Twitter has called on the country’s First Lady Fatima Bio to lead a one million man protest against the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority [EDSA] due to the dismal state of electricity supply nationwide.
According to Marrah, the First Lady did it recently by leading employees of Koidu Limited Mining Company in a peaceful protest over good conditions of service, adding that she can replicate same in Freetown for the public.
“Dear First Lady, Maybe it’s time to lead a one million man protest against the dismal state of electricity supply nationwide.” he wrote
He said the Sierra Leone Police cannot give protest permission to anyone else except the First Lady, making reference to his colleges whom he alleged were arrested and detained for ten days for attempting to request for protest permission, stating that the obligation to seek police clearance does not apply to the First Lady as she is the mother of the nation.
He said the intervention of the First Lady can help lift the embargo of electric outrage in the country, the same way she have helped to amplify the concerns of Koidu Limited Mining Company employees.
He concluded by asking the First Lady to consider his request.
Another mismatch… fakatey laayars… 🤣
Madam Nhatomah fight is for the workers from kono against koidu Holdings… period
But what’s bad if she can help in advocating for power supply in the capital city?? Don’t you think the citizens are undergoing constrains..
It’s even a loss to us because blackout can drive away investors!!
What if she refuse , what will you do? Isn’t because she helped the vulnerable I mean the poor labourers for their welfare, that is why u are asking her to lead thousands of people to protest against EDSA.
The answer is NO she will not. U are also a citizen of this country and authority, u can also do the same what the First Lady did in the welfare of KONO LABOURERS
Please don’t hard felling 😁
Lawyers Society should know better. Dr Fatima Bio is not a trade unionist or a civil rights activist. Workers at EDSA should appeal to their trade union representatives to champion their course.
Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah, President of the Sierra Leone Lawyer’s Society, you have called on First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio to lead a one-million-person protest against the Electricity Distribution Supply Authority (EDSA) due to the country’s poor electricity supply. Marrah you believe the First Lady’s intervention could address this issue right?, just as she supported Koidu Limited Mining Company employees in their fight for better working conditions.
The First Lady’s advocacy for Koidu Limited employees and the Kono People, affected by an international mining company Koidu Limited, demonstrates her commitment to social justice and human rights. As a lawyer, it’s essential to recognise and respect her efforts in promoting the welfare of marginalised communities.
However, Marrah your approach has raised concerns about your understanding of legal procedures and hierarchy. By now you should be aware on how to make a complaint to EDSA. Before organising protests, it’s crucial to follow established channels, such as contacting EDSA and exploring alternative solutions. Your comments may be perceived as dismissive of the Kono People and Koidu Limited workers’ struggles.
Key Considerations
– Respect for the First Lady’s Efforts: Recognising her advocacy for social justice and human rights
– Understanding Legal Procedures: Following established channels for addressing grievances
– Empathy for Affected Communities: Acknowledging the struggles of the Kono People and Koidu Limited workers
To better support the cause, consider collaborating with relevant authorities, organisations, and stakeholders to address the issues faced or your request. You are a lawyer and not a blogger you should know better. What Dr Fatima Maada Bio is doing for the Kono People and workers in Koidu Limited, is what you and your team should be doing to advocate for social justice and human rights as a lawyer. Organising class actions to advocate for communities. Do not seat there and expect the First Lady to do your job. Play your role in the community and stop being disrespectful to the people of Kono and the Koidu Limited employees.
