The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has reported 72 new Mpox cases in Sierra Leone, raising the national total to 1,675. The virus continues to spread aggressively, particularly in the western and rural areas of Freetown.

Health authorities have expressed deep concern over the growing number of cases and are urging the public to adhere strictly to contact precautions. In response to the rising infections, the Ministry is establishing holding and treatment centers in Hastings, Kingtom, Calaba Town, and Port Loko Town to better manage and contain the outbreak.

Mpox symptoms typically appear within 7 days of exposure but can take anywhere from 1 to 21 days to manifest. The illness generally lasts between 2 to 4 weeks, although individuals with weakened immune systems may experience longer recovery times.

The total confirmed across the country is 1,675, with active cases of 1,300, and new recoveries 10, and total recovered cases of 364 across the country, but sadly the total number of deaths has increased to 11.
