A prominent businessman, Ahmed Basha, and seven other individuals are now in police custody following serious allegations of sexually exploiting underage girls. The arrests were confirmed by the Deputy Head of Media at the Sierra Leone Police, ASP Mohamed Bobson Senu.
The investigation began after reports surfaced earlier this week alleging that Basha, the owner of Basha Bakery on Wilkinson Road, had sexually abducted three teenage girls at his private residence in Aberdeen.
According to reports from investigators, the three 15-year-old girls were allegedly confined at Basha’s home for a week. The reports claim that the girls were administered hard drugs and subjected to sexual acts during this period. It is also alleged that Basha would lock the girls inside his home whenever he left for work.
The case has triggered significant public outrage and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation. Prominent lawyer Basita Michael has publicly urged the police to handle the matter with the “utmost seriousness, transparency, and timeliness.”
In a statement on her Facebook page, she highlighted the justice system’s “troubling reputation for shielding the wealthy and powerful,” emphasizing the need to prioritize “the best interests of the child.”
The families of the alleged victims have appealed to the First Lady, the Inspector General of Police, and other government officials to ensure a fair and unbiased investigation.
Police say the 57-year-old Lebanese businessman, is being held at the Aberdeen Police Station along with seven others as they assist with the ongoing investigation.
