The Sierra Leone Police, in an effort to combat the rising incidents of child theft, has installed CCTV cameras at the Princess Christian Maternity (Cottage) Hospital in Freetown.
The installation took place on Saturday, June 21, 2025, and aims to bolster security within the hospital, particularly in the Baby Care Unit.
The newly installed smart CCTV cameras feature advanced capabilities, including real-time viewing, rotation, recording, and snapping. Notably, they are powered by solar energy, ensuring that they function effectively and reliably to provide continuous surveillance.
This proactive measure has received positive feedback from both mothers and healthcare professionals. Mothers expressed their gratitude towards the Sierra Leone Police for prioritising the safety of their infants.
Many acknowledged that those security measures offer them peace of mind during their hospital stay. Medical practitioners also praised the timely implementation, highlighting that the surveillance system will help restore trust in healthcare services and create a safer environment for newborns.
Hospital authorities have assured both the police chief and the public that a comprehensive monitoring mechanism will be established to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the CCTV system. They reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the welfare of infants and enhancing security within the hospital premises.
