In a viral video posted on Facebook, a teacher has expressed his dissatisfaction after teaching for twenty years without receiving a government teaching PIN code from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, despite being qualified with a certificate in education from Njala University in Bo.

Samuel Mohamed’s story resonates with many teachers who have been working for years without government compensation. “I have taught for two decades without a salary. I have been a dedicated teacher without a government PIN code and without being fully recognized as a civil servant,” he noted.

Assigned to teach in challenging conditions, Mr. Mohamed has nurtured generations of pupils over his two decades of service. However, he continues to work as a volunteer or community-paid teacher, with no official salary or benefits from the Ministry.

“I’ve given my life to education. I’m not asking for a reward; I’m asking for fairness. I deserve a PIN code like every other teacher,” he stated emotionally.

His plight highlights the ongoing issues within Sierra Leone’s education sector, emphasizing the need for recognition and support for dedicated educators.
