Sierra Leonean model and activist Zainab O. Sheriff has made it clear that she will not support First Lady Fatima Maada Bio if she decides to run for the SLPP flagbearer position in the 2028 elections.

Sheriff explained that she does not see the First Lady as someone who supports or uplifts other women. She believes Fatima Bio focuses more on herself and does not reflect the kind of leadership women in Sierra Leone are looking for.

While Sheriff has been vocal about the need for women to lead the country, she made it clear that not every woman fits the kind of leadership she is calling for. In her view, female leadership should involve supporting and standing with other women, something she says the First Lady does not represent. Though she continues to push for a woman in a top leadership position, she believes that choice must reflect someone who uplifts others, not just holds the title.

Her comments follow an earlier message she shared online, where she encouraged Sierra Leoneans to support female leadership at the highest levels of government. She said the country needs a woman to serve as either president or vice president and urged women not to stay silent but to step forward and take the lead.

As conversations around the 2028 elections grow, her statements have added to the public discussion about women in politics and whether the First Lady should be part of that future.
