The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has held a consultative meeting with All People’s Congress (APC) stakeholders in Bombali and Tonkolili Districts in northern Sierra Leone.
The mayor party executives from wards and constituencies in the two districts. The meeting focused on unity among members and commitment to the party.
“I consistently highlighted the need for unity within the APC and encouraged members to remain committed to the party’s principles ahead of the 2028 general elections,” Aki-Sawyerr said.
The APC has been Sierra Leone’s main opposition since losing the 2018 elections to the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). However, the party is currently fraught with disunity among members from different cadres.
Aki-Sawyerr is doing her final term as Freetown Mayor, and political analysts have suggested that she could be running for the presidency in the 2028 elections. Although she’s yet to declare her intentions, some party supporters has already thrown support for the lady.
However, she’s expected to face stiff competition from other candidates including Richard Konteh, Osman Timbo, Chernor Maju Bah and Mohamed Omodu Kamara for the party’s top seat.
